What gets you out of bed in the morning? For our Director of Business Development Yvonne, it’s the opportunity to have an impact on the nutrition and health of millions of people around the world. Read on to learn more about what she does and why it matters.
“Not only did One Young World bring me into contact with our sustainability team (which I joined shortly afterwards) – it also opened my eyes to the level of impact I could have on our business, people and the planet.”
How can we make food more nutritious?
It’s a question I am constantly asking myself. I work as a Director of business development for Health, Nutrition and Care. I focus on healthy nutrition, for the first 1000 days of life. Before this job, I worked in our sustainability team with a special focus on our partnership with the Gates Foundation. The partnership spans several different dsm-firmenich businesses and embraces everything from toilet hygiene to human nutrition.
One area I’m particularly interested in is food fortification. Take white rice. Although it’s a staple food for much of the global population, it’s not actually very nutritious. That’s work at solutions to fortify the rice – for example, by adding vitamins – to make sure everyone gets the nutrients they need.
A career with impact
I haven’t always been a in sustainable solutions. I began my career as a Sourcing Analyst within Supply Chain in Indirect Sourcing. But then I was invited to take part in the One Young World conference, and that changed everything. Not only did the event bring me into contact with our sustainability team (which I joined shortly afterwards) – it also opened my eyes to the level of impact I could have on our business, people and the planet. In my current role, for example, I get to set agendas and shape strategies that have a direct and positive effect on people all over the world.
Growing with dsm-firmenich
Training and development is a big part of life at dsm-firmenich. I’ve personally benefited from several opportunities, including a communications course that was designed specifically for women. We also have a mentoring program, which enables you to pair up with a leader and get insights on how to excel in your current job and grow with the company in the future.
Benefits of hybrid working
I have two boys who keep me very active! And I love spending time with friends and family. Having flexibility makes life so much easier, especially when it comes to taking the kids to and from school. It helps me show up fully at work and at home – and that means a lot.
