At dsm-firmenich, we are proud of our long-standing involvement with the One Young World global leadership conference. Former delegate and current coordinator of the program Charlene White Williams, Nadia Sharma, is here with details about the event and how it helps drive impact across the organization.
What is One Young World?
One Young World is an annual global conference that brings together 2,000 young leaders from over 190 countries to discuss some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. At dsm-firmenich, we're proud to be part of the One Young World movement and send our own delegation of young leaders every year.
Why does dsm-firmenich take part?
As innovators in health, nutrition and beauty, we have a keen interest in tackling the latest global challenges and see One Young World as an opportunity to inspire young talent within the organization. Our delegates return from the conference with a mission to create real change, implementing targeted projects over 100 working days. Results are reported directly to our CEO.
Who represented the organization at this year’s summit?
Employees were invited to put themselves forward as potential delegates. 15 young leaders were then selected based on their motivation, ideas, and potential to drive change. It was a truly diverse group of employees, with every delegate coming from a different department and location.
How have our 2024 delegates made an impact on the real world?
Our delegates designed and led no fewer than four different projects for One Young World 2024. One of the projects, which was designed to equip underprivileged youth with useful skills, tools and connections, touched the lives of almost 1,000 young people across three countries while also engaging more than 60 dsm-firmenich employees.
Sounds impressive! Can you tell us more about the project?
The project was built around six dynamic events, where dsm-firmenich employees shared their knowledge and insights with students from underprivileged backgrounds. The events achieved a 90% success rate in terms of broadening young people’s career horizons. They also helped inspire our own employees, with 91% of those participating reporting a stronger connection to dsm-firmenich's values and 93.2% saying they were eager to host future events.
