With his early interest in science, and ongoing love of cooking for family and friends, Alexis always seemed destined for a career in flavor. “I’m so proud of what we managed to achieve together. It’s important to me that the work we do as Flavorists can be a force for good.”
Born to be a flavorist
There are two things I have always loved: cooking and science. So, in a way, being a Flavorist at dsm-firmenich is my dream job. I get to work with colleagues in Application teams, evaluating, creating and applying flavors to go in food products enjoyed by consumers all over the world.
One big learning journey
As Flavorists, we are expected to keep learning and progressing throughout our time here. We even have a program called Flavorist Next, which provides you with targeted learning at each stage of your career journey, designed to help you prepare for your next move up. The program covers everything from technical and soft skills to more general topics, such as sugar regulatory changes for example. The idea is that we are constantly growing and expanding and knowledge, so that we can all be better Flavorists in the future.
How to lose sugar without losing taste
Recently, I had the chance to work with one of our dairy clients, developing cherry flavors for a sugar-reduced yogurt. Taking sugar out can leave what we call a sweetness gap. The aim was to fill this gap to create a product that was healthier but no less delicious. I’m so proud of what we managed to achieve together. It’s important to me that the work we do as Flavorists can be a force for good.
The secret of our success?
Curiosity. Scientific knowledge. Technical skills. All these things are important. But, for me, the key to our success as flavorists at dsm-firmenich is collaboration. Working together pushes each of us to be more creative – and helps all of us come up with better ideas, better flavors and, ultimately, better products for customers to enjoy.
